Rohill TetraNode TETRA system
In TETRA-hardware we represent the Rohill TertaNode system that's made in the Netherlands.
Rohill has delivered hundreds of TetraNode-systems all over the world, including the Helsinki airport EFHK Tetra system that was installed and deployed by Bandercom.
TetraNode, Rohill’s TETRA infrastructure solution, uses standard hardware and software components to create the most economical and powerful system currently available on the market. TetraNode’s flat network architecture based on nodes challenges the traditional hierarchical way of building networks. The principles of IP-networking are adopted in order to generate flexible network designs, which are scalable from single sites right up to deployment on a nation-wide scale.
TetraNode is one of the very few solutions on the market – perhaps the only one – which can claim to support the full range of services and applications supported by all TETRA terminals available on the market.
TetraNode supports all available network topologies. Ample opportunities for redundancy and resilience are built into the solution, offering 99.999% availability of resources. Connectivity to other networks and devices is guaranteed through a wide variety of system interfaces.

VHF - UHF - HF – repeaters
With repeaters, we extend the range of two-way radios and bring you the means of communicating when all users must hear everyone. Repeater is basically a base station that has a receiver and a transmitter and other necessary components, like an antenna and filter system. This kind of relaying base station receives on channel A and simultaneously transmits the received signal on channel B. The two-way radios used as terminals in the system transmit on the channel the base station receives on, and receive the channel the base station transmits on. Remote repeaters can be interconnected to eachother or to a control room, supervising center etc, by using links over radio, PSTN (telephone lin), or the latest technology, VoIP or RoIP.

VoIP, "Voice over internet protocol"
VoIP is a term used in conjunction with applications that carry voice over internet, or any other network using IP- or UDP protocols including WAN (world area network) and LAN (local area network). Our VoIP applications carry voice not only between different radio networks, but also including command center and base stations. Beside of controlling, the monitoring of the desired frequencies can naturally also be done over IP.
RoIP, "radio over internet protocol"
Radio over IP (RoIP) is similar to VoIP, the exception being that not only carrying audio between the systems, the connection is made between the two way radios or different systems (VHF, UHF, TETRA, POC25, WLAN, VoWLAN, WiFi).
Similarities: When thinking RoIP and VoIP, It's easy to understand that both carry audio between the parties and both systems need some control of the conversation. The audio itself is similar in RoIP and VoIP. Both take a sample of your voice, pack it and insert it in a particular frequency band, this technology is called a codec.
Differences: The differences between RoIP and VoIP are in controlling of the terminals.
VoIP is mainly dedicated in telephone-like use, including dial tones and DTMF signalling and other means of PSTN controlling. All these commands are standardized, making the terminals work between each others ignoring the actual brand of the terminal.
In RoIP, the protocol must carry additional control information, such as PTT (Push-To-Talk, controlling of transmit and receive states of the radio), and for instance changing the channel, scanning etc. These commands are not standardized, however some of the common controls are similar, but some of them are very manufacturer-specific and require different applications to successfully interconnect in between different networks. For meeting these requirements, Bandercom offers a wide variety of products according to customers needs.
Multiple application possibilities
VoIP/RoIP-technology can be used to connect different kinds of two-way radios or networks together, as well as between two rooms or a location in other continent through internet. Let's think about an installation group in a foreign site, which must consult an engineer or an expert at the main office. Easy, facile and free. If we also consider a national freight-, or a security company that has separate mobile radio networks at across the country, we can interconnect them in between each others or the main hub, or the emergency response center seamlessly and cost-effective. The system will produce revenue by accelerating performance in the enterprise by lowering the overall costs and improving the customer service.
Interoperability of organizations
The few standards, like TETRA in Europe (in Finland the most important user of the technology is VIRVE, national network for the authorities), APCO25 /P25 (USA and rest of the world) are attempts to standardize the two-way networks, functions and communication protocols. Anyhow, it's not possible, cost effective or simple to replace all networks with TETRA. Because of this, we'll have numerous separate, hard-to-manage, hard-to-access radio networks including HF, VHF, UHF among others. In Finland the examples are volunteer rescue service, smoke-divers of fire departments, HF stations of foreign ministry, special networks of internal ministry, military networks etc. Also security services provided by private organizations in big events (like the WRC Rally in Jyväskylä) need a means of communication between different two-way radio networks, at least between the organizers and authorities.
